History
The city of Al Sharjah has a long and rich history that dates back to ancient times. It was an important trading center for pearls and other goods in the 18th and 19th centuries and it played a significant role in the region's economy. In 1971, Al Sharjah became part of the newly-formed United Arab Emirates.
Geography
Al Sharjah is located on the eastern coast of the UAE, along the Gulf of Oman. It covers an area of approximately 235 square kilometers and is bordered by Dubai to the south and Ajman to the north. The city is divided into several districts, each with its own unique character and attractions.
